Travel Perks

“Before interning at United, I didn’t know anybody that worked for an airline. So, the first weekend of my internship, I decided to see what the non-rev/standby life was all about. My girlfriend and I got the last two open seats to Hawaii, and when we arrived, we were greeted by palm trees and sunny 80-degree weather. We had piña coladas on the beach, snorkeled in the crystal-clear water, and had some of the most delicious and fresh sushi ever. We loved the trip so much that we went to Maui later that same summer, and I’ve now been to Hawaii 5 times! I plan to return to Kona soon to hike at Volcanoes National Park.”

“By week 10 of my internship, I had a very solid group of travel buddies. One particular weekend, we planned a spontaneous trip and found ourselves headed to Colombia for a day trip. We saw all the sights, climbed a mountain, had incredible local food, befriended our taxi driver, and got altitude sickness all in time to catch the evening flight back to the States. Not only do you get the incredible benefit of standby privileges, but you’ll also meet people that will be your travel buddies and friends for years to come. I know I did!”
