Navigate is United Airlines’ FAA-approved dispatch certification program. Flight Dispatchers share operational control with the Pilot in Command to ensure safe, legal, and efficient flights, in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations and Company Manuals. This program covers all aspects of operational control, enhances critical thinking skills, and equips participants with the knowledge needed to excel in the aviation industry.

Be at least 23 years old to take the course and obtain your dispatch certificate
Be a High School graduate or hold a GED
Pass the FAA ADX written exam prior to class start (separate from Navigate)
Program Overview 
Navigate was created by current, qualified United dispatchers to provide opportunities to our internal United employees as well as to the communities we serve to advance the dispatch profession.

Our commitment:
• A dedicated study space
• An additional voluntary study hour with an instructor
• Support from current and qualified dispatchers with years of operational experience

Our instructors: All Navigate instructors are current, qualified United Flight Dispatchers who are committed to your success having designed and developed Navigate’s curriculum to ensure candidates have the skills needed based on their experiences in the field.

Our curriculum: Regulatory requirements such as FAA regulations, meteorology, ATC, emergencies, aircraft systems, aircraft performance, navigation, and dispatch application will be covered in Navigate. Our curriculum includes the latest industry knowledge, instilled with our company values, and dedicated to the highest safety standards.

Program FAQs

Active employees who are at least 23 years old, have a GED or higher education, have been with the company for at least 1 year with good company standing, and have valid passing ADX results.

We recommend downloading ADX exam prep questions from the FAA and begin studying prior to your test date. More information about the ADX exam and to register for an exam click here. We have other resources available upon request. 
*ADX Disclaimer: ADX results are only good for 2 years.  If you do not obtain your dispatch certificate within 2 years, you will need to retake the test and repay the fee. 

No, it needs to be completed with a passing status prior to coming to Navigate. It is an 80-question knowledge test administered by the FAA at testing centers across the USA for a fee of $160.

The launch of Navigate Academy is anticipated to take place at United's Network Operations Center in the fall of 2024.

Unfortunately, Navigate does not offer experience substitution for classroom time.
