Network Operations overview

The Network Operations department helps United run a safe, reliable airline, and includes careers in aircraft routing and dispatching, crew scheduling, air traffic control, and more. 

Job overview and responsibilities 

The Network Operations Analysis intern will be responsible for review and analysis of operational and competitive performance trends. The position will provide ad-hoc analysis on a wide range of topics related to operations, and their associated financial valuation. The intern will work on projects related to various operational reliability improvements, and prepare trend reports including evaluations, analysis and recommendations for potential action.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Assisting in the facilitation and achievement of all corporate reliability goals
  • Providing analysis on a wide array of operational topics in order to support and ensure delivery of goals relating to A:00, D:00, and flight completion
  • Utilizing operational reports to identify opportunities based on trend results
  • Responding to requests for analysis and preparing presentations for review by senior leadership
  • Providing cost analysis for operational decisions to aid in course determination
  • Developing scorecards, frameworks, and dashboards that assist with decision making
  • Extracting operational data from various data system to support analysis
  • Performing data science techniques to develop strategies and forecast operational results


  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, data sciences, or business/economics
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Knowledge of VBA and SQ
  • Knowledge of Python and R
